🐢 The Turtle’s Philosophy of Slowing Down (and What It Teaches Us About Breath)

Turtle

In a world that rewards speed, urgency, and multitasking, the turtle quietly offers us a sacred reminder:

Go slow. Breathe deep. You’ll still get there but with your peace intact.

Have you ever watched a turtle walk?
It’s never in a rush.
It doesn’t panic. It doesn’t push.
It moves with purpose and calm carrying its home, its sense of safety, right on its back.

And yet it always arrives.

🌿 Why the Turtle Became My Symbol

When I created The Slow Down Rituals, I didn’t want to offer another high-performance system or perfect morning routine.
I wanted to offer something gentle. Rooted. Realistic.

The turtle became the soul of that vision not just a symbol, but a teacher.

Because I’ve lived the need for slowness.

💛 My Story: When Slowing Down Became the Only Way

Before motherhood, I struggled with chronic overthinking. Yoga helped. Breathwork grounded me. I felt more myself.

But in 2020, I became a mother during the pandemic in a different country, with no maternal support.
I was emotionally stretched, physically in pain, and mentally overstimulated.

Meditation felt impossible.
Yoga asanas felt too demanding.
Even silence felt unreachable.

But I knew I couldn’t keep pushing through the chaos. I needed to slow down in a way that fit my reality.

So I started small.
Just 5 minutes. No pressure. No performance.

✨ My 5-Minute Slow Down Rituals

  • 5 minutes of conscious breathing
  • 5 minutes of gentle stretching
  • 5 minutes of mindful stillness
  • 5 minutes of sipping coffee in silence
  • 5 minutes of journaling or practicing gratitude

I didn’t do all of them every day.
I picked one whatever felt manageable.
Some days I skipped. But I always returned, gently.

And slowly, I began to feel a shift.

My nervous system softened.
My reactions slowed down.
I could enjoy motherhood a little more.
I could connect with my partner with more presence.

🌬 What the Turtle Teaches Us About Breath

Turtles breathe slowly and deeply. Some can even hold their breath for hours not out of force, but out of calm regulation.

They don’t panic.
They don’t rush.
They move with breath as their rhythm.

🐢 The turtle lives a long life because it breathes slowly, moves gently, and conserves its energy.
In Yogic philosophy, the turtle is a sacred symbol it teaches us to withdraw inward, to slow the breath, and to be fully present.
That’s the very essence of nervous system regulation.

As humans, we often do the opposite.
We breathe fast, shallow, or not at all especially under stress.

And when the breath is off, the nervous system follows.

But that also means: when we bring back the breath, we bring back our calm.

🌼 From 5 Minutes to Deep Practice

Those 5-minute rituals were my lifeline.
And as the months passed, they grew:

  • 5 minutes became 10
  • 10 became 15
  • I returned to meditation
  • I began practicing again
  • I deepened into pranayama

Eventually, I completed certifications in Pranayama, Meditation, and a 200-hour Hatha Yoga TTC.
My spiritual practice grew roots but it all began with a single breath, taken with intention.

🧘‍♀️ You Don’t Need Long Routines You Need What’s Real

If you’re reading this as a tired parent, a busy professional, a working mother or someone navigating stress and disconnection

Please know:
You don’t need 30 minutes of yoga.
You don’t need to meditate perfectly.
You just need to start with what you have.

That’s the heart of what I call:

✨ The 3 S Philosophy:

  • Start Small — even just 5 minutes a day
  • Slow Down — soften your breath, your pace, your nervous system
  • Space Your Mind — create room to respond, not react

This isn’t about doing less.
It’s about doing life with more presence, more peace, and more you.

🌙 Final Thought

The turtle gets there.
Not because it rushes but because it trusts its pace.

So today, give yourself permission to:

  • Slow down
  • Breathe intentionally
  • Begin with a small, doable ritual

Because you carry your calm with you just like the turtle carries its home.
